John Legend has opened up about his new born baby daughter, and how the name they chose for her has turned out to be a happy coincidence.
The singer, 44, and wife Chrissy Teigen, 37, welcomed their third child on January 13, naming her Esti Maxine Stephens.
John told E! News that the name was Chrissy's idea, the couple discovered that it had a surprising family connection.
He said: "It turns out, my great-grandmother was named Esther.
"It wasn't intentionally after someone, but once Chrissy told me that idea, I was like, 'Oh, my great-grandmother's name was Esther'."
The middle name John and Chrissy chose for Esti also has ties to another of the former’s relatives.
He continued: "We wanted to already name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine. So, it's a lot of my family in the name."
The couple are also parents to daughter Luna, six, and four-year-old son Miles. They announced they were expecting a baby in August 2022, just two years after Chrissy experienced a miscarriage in 2020.
Sharing the couple’s pregnancy news on social media, Chrissy wrote: "The last few years have been a blur of emotions to say the least, but joy has filled our home and hearts again.
Making reference to the couple’s IVF journey, she added: "1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way."
Chrissy and John broke the news that their baby had arrived on January 19, posting a picture of the family of five to Instagram.
Chrissy wrote: "She's here! Esti Maxine Stephens – the house is bustling and our family could not be happier.
"Daddy shed nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love, and I am learning you still need diapers with a c section!? We are in bliss. Thank you for all the love and well wishes – we feel it all!"
Despite having his hands full with three children, John has recently launched a new unisex skincare line, Loved01, targeted for people of colour.
He said: "Far too often, those skin types are ignored or understudied, under researched when it comes to developing and formulating skincare products.
"And so, we all felt that was a gap that needed to be addressed and that we could create a new product whose mission was to address that gap and to do it in a way that was really accessible and affordable for people."
