John Legend makes another clap back at Trump after he insults 'filthy mouthed wife' Chrissy Teigen

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen became the unlikely targets of a rant by Donald Trump this week, and the singer isn't going down without a fight.

He and his model wife were slammed by the President over what he saw as their failure to recognise him for criminal justice reform.

Trump, 73, branded John a "boring musician" and Chrissy his "filthy mouthed wife" in a string of bizarre tweets.

The All Of Me warbler, 40, jumped to defend his wife, 33, and criticised the President for desperately trying to get "praise" from celebrities like him, before pointing out his own work on the issue again last night.

In particular, Trump had been annoyed that he wasn't getting a pat on the back for signing the First Step Act into a law, which means gives non-violent prisoners the opportunity for early release if they take part in counselling programmes.

Trump tweeted: "Guys like boringmusician @johnlegend, and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is - but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed."

John and Chrissy were baffled that their names had been dragged into the debate.

He tweeted: "Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody--ANYBODY--will praise you.

"Melania, please praise this man. He needs you."

John added: "Your country needs you, Melania."

Luckily, Chrissy found the bizarre situation hilarious.

She tweeted: "Lol what a p***y a** b***h. Tagged everyone but me. an honor, mister president."

Chrissy added: "The absolute best part of his tweet is I literally didn't speak in the special, nor was I mentioned.

"I'm cackling at the pointless addition of me because he cannot not be a b****."

And on Monday night John wanted to raise awareness of the issue once again following the Trump digs.

He directed his Twitter followers to a website, posting: "If you are interested in learning more about my efforts to reform America's criminal justice system and end mass incarceration, follow @letsfreeamerica."
