BRIEF: Friday's recap: Cubs 8, Nationals 6

May 07--The Cubs captured their fifth straight victory in an 8-6 triumph over the Nationals, aided by four home runs on a summer-like Friday at Wrigley Field.

At the plate

Ben Zobrist led the way with two home runs and four RBIs, while Anthony Rizzo homered and Tommy La Stella homered and tripled. Jason Heyward snapped an 0-for-20 skid.

On the mound

John Lackey kept the ball down with the wind blowing out, allowing only two extra-base hits while giving up two runs over seven innings, with 11 strikeouts.

In the field

With the vines slowly coming in, Dexter Fowler made a leaping catch into the bricks in right-center field to steal extra bases from Ryan Zimmerman.

Key number

2000 -- Lackey's career strikeouts.

The quote

"In a good year that's the Lafayette Leopards, also." -- Joe Maddon on the Cubs 22-6 record.

Up next

Vs. Nationals, 3:05 p.m. Saturday. CSN and Fox Sports 1.
