John Krasinski has said he would “love” to star in a reboot of Fantastic Four, but has yet to meet with Marvel about the role.
The Jack Ryan star, who will soon return with A Quiet Place Part II, has been a popular candidate in Marvel fan circles for the role of Reed Richards in a potential reboot of the series.
Emily Blunt, Krasinski’s wife, has also been regularly earmarked as making a perfect Susan Storm, Richards’ wife in the comic books.
“I would love to do it,” Krasinski told Comic Book. “I think to be a part of the Marvel world would be amazing anyway, and the fact that people would even consider me for that level of a part would be amazing.
He did, however, explain that he has not been approached about the role by Marvel CEO Kevin Feige.
“I genuinely have had no conversations or don’t know anything that’s happening with that,” he said. “I’m awaiting Kevin’s announcements of what the hell’s happening with that as much as you are.”
Both Krasinski and Blunt have personal histories with Marvel. Blunt was originally cast as Black Widow in 2010’s Iron Man 2, but was replaced by Scarlett Johansson when production on comedy Gulliver’s Travels overran.
Krasinski, meanwhile, auditioned for the role of Captain America in 2011, getting so far as to wear the character’s suit for a camera test. “I acted my heart out that day, but it didn’t work out,” he told Ellen DeGeneres earlier this year.
While a Fantastic Four reboot has yet to be confirmed, it is heavily suspected to be put into production now that the rights to the series are solely owned by Disney and Marvel Films. Previous cinematic incarnations of the series were produced by the now-defunct 20th Century Fox.
