Sometimes you wonder how stupid are we in this country?
We spend millions and millions buying vaccines, telling everyone to get the Covid jab., and the vast majority of people – about 90% of adults have one shot so far – respond positively.
But then we let unvaccinated people work in our hospitals and nursing homes, putting the lives of the most vulnerable and people with underlying medical conditions in danger.
Yes I kid you not, I’m not joking.
When I heard the boss of the HSE Paul Reid admit this the other day I nearly crashed the car. I never felt so angry and so agitated in all my life.
What is the point of us as a nation making so many sacrifices to get through this pandemic, and then the HSE turns around and shoots itself in the foot.
Letting an unvaccinated staff member into an HSE premises is criminal and deadly as far as I am concerned.
I don’t give a damn about the rights of the anti-vaxxers or the conspiracists.
In fact any health service staff who refuse to get the jab should be fired, because they are selfishly putting other people’s lives at risk.
The unions can rant and rave all they like but it is wrong.
I asked the HSE several questions in the last few days about their unvaccinated staff and they never replied.
Under our current law every employer has a duty of care to provide a safe working environment for their staff so they don’t get Covid.
But technically, if you ask a staff member if they were vaccinated, they don’t have to answer because it is their own private medical business.
The law needs to be changed urgently so employers can find out if their staff have been vaccinated or not.
Dr Tony Holohan and Nphet have been busy telling us all how to live our lives and yet won’t even let live music gigs around the country, never mind more than 50 people in a church. Yet there is not a word from them about the unvaccinated working in the HSE and jeopardising the lives of ordinary decent people.
The rising number of Covid in hospitals caused by unvaccinated staff is causing great hardship.
People are not being let in to see loved ones who are dying and patients are effectively being left to die alone.
In many instances loved ones are only let in until their relative has just hours to live.
It is shocking and wrong but no-one in the HSE, Nphet or the Government wants to talk about it.
We all got vaccinated to protect ourselves and for the greater good even if we were a bit nervous about it.
Those who refuse the jab should never ever be allowed to keep their jobs in the HSE and nor should they expect to.
