John Kennedy pitched as Celtic Ange Postecoglou Pro Licence solution in Rangers workaround duplicate

Former defender Mark Wilson insists John Kennedy could be the solution to Celtic's UEFA coaching licence headache.

The Hoops remain confident of landing frontrunner Ange Postecoglou however It appears the former Australia boss does not have the UEFA Pro Licence he'd need to take over.

However, that will not necessarily end his chances of stepping into the hot seat at Parkhead.

Rangers found a workaround to the same issue when Steven Gerrard was appointed back in the summer of 2018.

Coach Michael Beale held his UEFA pro licence which meant Gerrard could take the reins at Ibrox, although he was also given dispensation as he’d started working towards his own.

Kennedy's former teammate believes that the Celtic interim boss could perform a similar role for Postecoglou.

If he was to remain as part of the coaching team it would mark the fourth boss he has worked under at Parkhead following Ronnie Deila, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

Wilson told Clyde 1 SSB: “Postecoglou has huge experience in the game and it’s just a bit of football politics between UEFA and FIFA about getting your badges.

“I do know the UEFA pro-licence does take a while to complete, the best part of 18 months when you are on it.

“I believe if you have someone on your staff that has the relevant badges you will be fine to carry on, which of course Celtic have with John Kennedy and Stephen McManus who did it a long time ago.

“The timescale of passing, a few weeks before anything can be done, is the interesting one.

“That is where it falls firmly at the feet of the Celtic board on this one.

"They allowed themselves to be strung along by Eddie Howe by 90 days. For that to collapse, and another stumbling to present itself before start of the season, and the Celtic board have know about his for a long time; how important it is to have a good summer and pre-season

“If I’m a Celtic player just now away with Scotland, on my holidays or away with another international team, I’m looking at this situation and thinking what is going on here? Who am I reporting back to on the first day of pre-season?

“Will it be who I left in John Kennedy, Stephen McManus and Gavin Strachan, will they be taking the first day of pre-season, or will it be someone else? Will the date be pushed back? It’s very murky waters, because it’s so important to get off to a good start."
