John Kennedy laments end of Celtic era but backs good times to return

Interim Celtic manager John Kennedy admits it's the end of an era for the Parkhead club but insists he believes the good times will swiftly return.

The Hoops finished off their dismal Premiership campaign against Hibs at Easter Road this afternoon, with the uninspiring 0-0 draw summing up the season in many ways.

The result means Kennedy and his players finish a whopping 25 points behind their bitter rivals Rangers, with captain Scott Brown making his final appearance before departing for Aberdeen.

Whilst Brown might be the only confirmed departure so far, more of Celtic's underperforming squad are sure to follow, and Kennedy acknowledged that the curtain has came down on the nine-in-a-row and quadruple treble winning side.

After the full-time whistle, he said: "It almost feels like the end of an era. I have been here through some really good times, successful times when we have been on the crest of a wave.

“This year unfortunately it has not worked out as we would have wished. The club captain is leaving, there will be changes in management and at board level.

“There will be a number of players leaving, loan players or whatever it might be.

"It is almost like we draw a line now. You look back and you reflect on what we have achieved over the years.

“You draw that line then it is time to rebuild and then you move on.

“People look at things in isolation and judge purely on things like points totals. Ultimately football can change very quickly.

“You go into next season, start positively and it can take you anywhere. That is the ultimate goal for the club, stabilise, get everybody in place we need to get in place.

“Get a good squad and go out and become champions again.”
