John Kennedy in shock Celtic sporting director option as Hoops caretaker 'lined up' for move upstairs

Interim Celtic boss John Kennedy should be in for a shock move upstairs to the sporting director role if Eddie Howe takes over as manager.

Kennedy is currently looking after the first team but it's now being suggested he is 'in the frame' for the sporting director job and could work alongside Howe.

The former Bournemouth boss is the clear favourite for the job and is currently getting his backroom staff together to move north of the border.

And the Scottish Sun say Kennedy is being considered for a surprise new job to ensure he doesn't leave Celtic Park in the summer.

Kennedy has often been viewed as a future Celtic boss and has been in charge of the team since Neil Lennon left earlier this season as the club's campaign fell apart.

Fergal Harkin is also being considered for the job but Howe is unlikely to be joined by Richard Hughes.

It’s believes Howe has been promised full control over his backroom staff, something that has frustrated other managers in recent years when they’ve had their assistants and coaches placed alongside them with little to no say.

Kennedy will stay in charge of Celtic until the summer and could still leave then, as he said last week: “Yeah, it might.

"But I’m genuinely not stressed about what the future holds for me.”
