John Kennedy fired Celtic 'liven up' demand as club legend launches exasperated blast

Frank McAvennie insists John Kennedy isn't the right man for Celtic as he demanded the caretaker boss "liven up".

The club legend reckons there's no chance he'd get up for a game working under the former centre-back.

A calm and collected figure, Kennedy has earned backing from current and former Parkhead stars - including Kieran Tierney - in the race to be named Neil Lennon 's successor.

Kennedy has taken interim charge of the side following Lennon's resignation but McAvennie is adamant he can't get the job full-time.

Indeed, he feels it's time the 37-year-old moved on to take a top job elsewhere and allow Celtic to build again from the ground up.

“The club have kept it under wraps so far," McAvennie told Football Insider.

"I do not think John Kennedy will get it. He is not the right man for the job and that is no disrespect to him.

“He is part of the problem though because he has been there through this terrible season.

Celtic need a clear-out. They need brand new management. The players need to go into pre-season with different people and fresh ideas. They need new players, a new manager and new coaching staff.

“I would personally like to see John go away and get a manager’s job where he can make mistakes. Celtic are too big.

“I know John, and he wouldn’t liven me up for a game. God, liven up.”
