John Kavanagh says people threatened to have him arrested for jogging on public path

Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh has told how two women apparently threatened to have him arrested for jogging on a public path.

Taking to Twitter, coach Kavanagh explained that he went jogging with a group and was confronted on two occasions.

He said: "Went for jog in local park with handful of guys. Within 20 mins two different women had threatened to get us arrested for running on a public path.

"We were very conscious to give people (not many there) plenty of space. People really have little to be worrying about!"

Kavanagh added that one person took issue with the fact he was not wearing a mask while exercising.

He wrote: "I did not see one person in park wearing a mask.

"One of the ladies stood next to me complaining we weren't wearing masks...while not wearing a mask...and insisting on standing within talking distance of me...instead of just moving on."

The wearing of face coverings is mandatory on public transport and became mandatory in shops in the Republic of Ireland on Monday.

And one of Ireland's top doctors urged the public to be cautious, warning that Ireland could return to phase two of restrictions if cases begin to hit 100 per day.

NPHET's Dr Cillian De Gascun said that Ireland would be in a "difficult place" if such a situation should arise.

He said: "We can still have an affect on what happens between August 10. We can't change the infections that have already occurred.

"So next week the die is cast but after that we can have an impact. If people adopt the measures and re-energise themselves and really take on the public health advice.

"If there's widespread community transmission of the virus, then it will get into schools, into residential care facilities, and into nursing homes - but if we can stamp it out in the community, that's how we protect everybody."
