John Jensen outlines his main tasks at Arsenal as Unai Emery's backroom staff overhaul continues

Arsenal's number of former players returning to the club to take a position in the backroom staff has increased once more, as John Jensen has confirmed his position as a scout.

The 54-year-old former midfielder became a cult hero during a four-year stint at Highbury during the 1990's and joins the likes of Edu and Freddie Ljungberg at the club.

Jensen has joined as a scout covering the Scandinavian region, initially identifying young players but he hopes that he can find assets for the first-team in the coming years.

"It is true that I have to work for Arsenal. On July 1, I started my job as head coach for the club in Scandinavia," he told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

"Initially, I need to find talents for the club's academy, but in the long term I hope to contribute with scouting players to the Premier League squad. After more than 20 years as a coach, I feel that I have my finger on the pulse of the football industry.

"Since I stopped in Fremad Amager, I have worked a little for an agent company in the USA, where I have scouted players in Europe and especially Scandinavia.

"It has been extremely exciting. Now I continue in the same track with a focus on the young talents.

"There is a new trend where the clubs pick up the young talents very early today. They do it so they can shape themselves.

"The competition is therefore great, and that means that we must have followed the talents from maybe 12-13 years to assess whether they are ready for such a big leap that Arsenal will be when they can change clubs."

Scandinavian countries have regularly provided talent assets for Premier League clubs, with Arsenal's arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur benefitting the most by landing Christian Eriksen.

Finding the next generation of star will not be easy but the region is a hotbed of talent that is often untouched by Europe's elite, so Arsenal may have found a way to get their foot in the door.
