John Humphrys has taken a swipe at Meghan Markle for including Oprah Winfrey on the royal wedding list, which ultimately led to the tell-all bombshell interview.
The 77-year-old Mastermind host, who is stepping down from the role after 18 years and will be replaced by Clive Myrie, has previously declared himself "an ardent republican" and has taken aim at the Royal Family on previous occasions.
While host of BBC Radio 4's Today programme, he was known to have been tough on the royals in interviews and has been outspoken on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to leave the Royal Family and pursue a private life in the United States.
John has said that Harry "appeared to rather enjoy” his royal duties before marrying Meghan and was openly critical of the couple in a YouGov article.
He has criticised their Oprah Winfrey interview, in which Meghan made a number of allegations about how she was treated by the royals.

John said that the couple said they wanted "to free themselves of the Royal Family’s shackles” and that their “privacy to be respected” when announcing their decision to leave royal duties.
John added in a column for the Daily Mail: “[The] interview... will be broadcast to hundreds of millions of people around the world… isn't there just the teeniest contradiction here?”
He also said that the interview had its foundations laid at their 2018 wedding, when Meghan and Harry invited Oprah after "meeting once" and not some of Meghan's family.

John wrote: “I suppose not everyone can be there”, adding that weddings are “so expensive and all that”.
He did point out: “You did manage to squeeze your old friend Oprah onto the invitation list.
“I say 'old friend' but I believe you'd met her only once before the wedding.”
John sarcastically added “how fortunate” Meghan was “to make friends so easily.”
