John Higgins thrashes Ronnie O'Sullivan to move one win from Scottish Open title

John Higgins is one match away from lifting his first Scottish Open title after a 6-1 rout against Ronnie O'Sullivan.

The 46-year-old was in no mood for messing about in Llandudno as he claimed a fifth victory in six meetings with O'Sullivan this calendar year.

Higgins has already reached three finals in 2021 but he has lost in each showpiece event.

The wizard of Wishaw will face Luca Brecel of Belgium today after he managed to breeze past fellow Scot Anthony McGill 6-1.

It was a relentless display from Higgins, who stormed ahead into a 3-0 lead with breaks of 76 and 125.

O'Sullivan managed to gain some breathing space with an 86 break but Higgins hit right back with runs of 74 and 98 to emerge from the match a clear winner.

The Scottish Open is a title which has eluded Higgins in his lengthy career to date. He was the tournament's runner-up in 2016, losing to Marco Fu.

Higgins will now aim to avoid the same fate he's already suffered at the English Open, Northern Ireland Open and Champion of Champions events this year.
