John Higgins started his British Open title defence in style this afternoon with an incredible 147 maximum in the first frame of his first round match.
The Wizard of Wishaw - a four-time -world champion - pocketed his 12th career maximum with a perfect showing against Swiss opponent Alexadner Ursenbacher at the Morningside Area in Leicester, where the tournament has returned after a 17-year hiatus.
Higgins, 46, is the reigning champion in the event after beating fellow Scotsman Stephen Maguire 9-6 in 2004.
And his feat this afternoon sees him overtake countryman Stephen Hendry in the 147 rankings to move into second spot in the all-time standings, leaving him three behind of Ronnie O'Sullivan's record of 15 maximums.
