John Henry makes FSG admission and sends Liverpool message

John W Henry has sent a message of thanks on behalf of Fenway Sports Group to Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool squad who helped make them Premier League champions.

The Reds were officially declared league winners back in June before they went on to lift their first title in 30 years at Anfield after a 5-3 win over Chelsea on July 22.

Klopp and his players then secured their biggest-ever finish in a Premier League season by moving on to 99 points with a 3-1 win at Newcastle on the final day of the campaign.

It will be 10 years in October since FSG ended the reign of the detested ownership pair of Tom Hicks and George Gillett and a remarkable 13 months of football has seen the American group celebrate success in the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup in Qatar before the Premier League trophy was collected nearly a fortnight ago.

Reds principal owner Henry has paid tribute to the players and staff who helped the club win their 19th league crown and first since 1990 in an interview with Liverpoolfc.com.

And the Boston native explained how the relationship between Klopp, FSG president, Mike Gordon, and sporting director, Michael Edwards, has enabled the team to thrive on the pitch over the last five years of the German's spell as manager.

“I could go on and on about Jurgen and how his heart is larger than his frame, how his enthusiasm affects all of us positively every day,” said Henry.

“But I think what is important is he is determined every day to do the right thing, whether it’s with regard to what happens on the pitch, whether it’s regard to nutrition for the club. He is just determined every day to do the right thing and that rubs off.

“He works every day with Mike Gordon and Michael Edwards, two people I’ve met who have the strongest moral code you could imagine.

“It’s quite amazing to be involved with people on a day-to-day basis who are really talented and really committed to what they do.

"The fact that it’s the kind of people – Jurgen and Mike and Michael and (chairman) Tom Werner and (outgoing CEO) Peter Moore. It’s an extraordinary group.

"To the staff, to the players, to all of you who expended so much effort over these last two years, I just want to say thank you from all of us at Fenway Sports Group.

"I know you get this from the fans, I don’t know if you get it from us enough but we really appreciate everything you did this year, this last two years. Thank you."
