John Hartson slams Mesut Ozil for role in Eintracht Frankfurt winner against Arsenal

John Hartson blasted Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil over his role in Eintracht Frankfurt's winner as yet more pressure was heaped on Unai Emery.

The Gunners missed the chance to book their place in the Europa League knockout stages as they were beaten 2-1 at the Emirates to make it seven games without a win in all competitions.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had given Arsenal a deserved lead just before half-time.

But two Daichi Kamada strikes from the edge of the box turned the game on its head and condemned Emery's side to defeat.

Former Arsenal striker Harston was fuming with Ozil for failing to close down Kamada ahead of the Japan international's winner.

Ozil, who has often been criticised for a perceived lack of effort, started to move towards Kamada but didn't fully commit, drawing Hartson's ire.

Hartson said: "Look at Ozil here, Ozil should be throwing himself.

"He goes and then he stops.

"You throw everything to try and block the shot."

The former Wales international felt there was a general lack of desire from Arsenal, saying: "There was none of that tonight from Arsenal. There really, really wasn't."

Arsenal still top Group F ahead of their final Europa League group game away to Standard Liege on December 12.

But the humiliating defeat is the latest in a series of disappointing results which have left manager Emery teetering close to the brink.

Arsenal fans booed the team off and the only question is when the club’s hierarchy decides to pull the trigger on under-pressure Emery.

Gunners legend Freddie Ljungberg could step in as a caretaker boss if Emery is sacked before Sunday's trip to face Norwich.

Failure to win at Carrow Road would not only be a huge embarrassment but would be very damaging to Arsenal's fading chances of bridging the gap to the Premier League's top four.
