Pundit John Hartson reckons Shaun Maloney will learn from Gio van Bronckhorst's Rangers Premier Sports Cup semi-final swerve if appointed at Hibs.
The Belgium assistant boss is set to take over at Easter Road ahead of the Premier Sports Cup Final clash with former club Celtic.
Caretaker boss David Gray will take charge of the team against Dundee but Maloney is expected to be confirmed as boss within the next 24 hours.
It could lead to a baptism of fire as the former Scotland cap is thrown in at the deep end with the struggling Leith side against Ange Postecoglou's title chasers.
However, Hartson reckons that his former Parkhead teammate will want to take charge straight away after the Hampden disappointment for Rangers in the semi-final that got Hibs to Sunday's showpiece.
Van Bronckhorst received some criticism for not taking charge nor visiting the dressing room during the lacklustre 3-1 defeat, despite sporting director Ross Wilson explaining this was due to a work permit delay.
Hartson told The Go Radio Football Show that Maloney should take on the role as soon as possible, stating: "Everybody thought that Celtic would be playing Rangers in the cup final.
"You look at Van Bronckhorst and he came and sat in his seat up in the stand. Hindsight is a great thing. If he had gone in the dressing room, if he had acted as manager that day it might well have been different.
"It might not, but we won't know.
"So I think if Shaun Maloney is named manager by the weekend he will want to take charge.
"I know David Gray is taking charge tonight (Tuesday), but if Shaun Maloney is announced by the weekend I think he takes over. Why not?
"He's the manager by the game. I don't think there is any need for him not to be in charge. If he is the manager, he is the manager.
"He will want to take the credit for that cup win."
