John Hartson names TWO key Celtic transfer areas for Brendan Rodgers to address this summer

John Hartson has identified TWO key areas for Celtic to address this summer.

Brendan Rodgers has been officially unveiled to the media following his return to Parkhead after Ange Postecoglou's exit for Tottenham in the English Premier League. The hard work officially gets underway for the former Liverpool and Leicester City boss as he bids to maintain the domestic dominance over Rangers and make a splash in Europe.

Celtic enter the Champions League group stage once again and with competing at Europe's top table in mind, Hartson believes another striker is required to back up Kyogo Furuhashi. He knows Oh Hyeon-gyu is on the books but with very little experience of the top level to date, another forward is a position he would like to see strengthened.

He's also picked out the centre-back position. Cameron Carter-Vickers - recovering from injury - and Carl Starfelt have struck up a solid partnership but the strength and depth behind the key pair isn't as strong with recent recruit Yuki Kobayashi on the books alongside Stephen Welsh. Postecoglou even used Tomoki Iwata in that position during the end of season run-in.

Writing for the Daily Mail, the Hoops legend explained: "In my view, Celtic need another centre forward and another centre half. Those are certainly the areas I would be targeting.

"If anything happens to Kyogo Furuhashi, Oh Hyeon-gyu is there. The South Korean has promise but he has not played at the highest level yet and hasn't a lot of experience.

"So I would be looking for another forward ahead of the Champions League group stage campaign kicking off this summer.

"It's certainly going to be exciting as Celtic look forward to writing a second chapter under Brendan Rodgers.

"What happened in 2019 is in the past. This is about the future for Celtic and it's a very positive appointment from Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell."
