John Harbaugh: Ravens G Alex Lewis to return in early August

The Baltimore Ravens saw the return of nearly all their 91-man roster on Friday’s practice. After missing six players on Day 1 of training camp, outside linebacker Shane Ray, and offensive linemen Jermaine Eluemunor and Orlando Brown Jr. passed their conditioning tests and were allowed to practice on Day 2. But that still left wide receiver Marquise Brown and guard Alex Lewis absent due to their injuries.

Coach John Harbaugh further elaborated on Lewis’ injury status at the end of practice, however. Harbaugh said they were given a date of early August for Lewis to be “full go” and cleared for practice.

Lewis started all 10 games he was active in last season but a scary neck injury and offseason shoulder surgery have seen him find his way to the PUP list.

He’s expected to be at the middle of the competition for the starting left guard job at training camp. Fighting with Lewis is Eluemunor, James Hurst and rookie Ben Powers — who practiced with the first team on Day 1.

The sooner he can come back, the better, as Lewis’ roster spot is far from guaranteed at this point. Getting him back in early August would mean Lewis should get a few weeks of practice and some preseason games in before Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
