He may be an extremely popular actor thanks to roles in one of the most successful US sitcoms and have cult films such as The Big Lebowski under his belt, but John Goodman still seems to be struggling with a few confidence issues.
The Roseanne actor demonstrated his overwhelmingly humble side during a chat with Howard Stern on the Howard Stern Show, where he talked about why he will never approach Kristen Wiig again and claimed he wasn't ‘A-list enough’ to be hanging with Matt Damon and George Clooney.
Despite Stern’s best efforts to convince him he was a bona fide A-lister during a conversation about his time on the set of The Monuments Men, Goodman was having none of it.
“I tried to hang with them, but Matt and George would always have these conversations and they'd go out for cocktails afterwards and I don't really drink,” he said. “I don't bring a lot to that party because they're super A-level guys.”
Next came his account of bumping into Wiig, an actress he greatly admires, and feeling so awkward after interrupting her conversation that he “shrunk down to an atom size”.
“I interrupted a conversation. And she was like, 'Yeah, I'll talk to you in a minute.
“I shrunk down to an atom size. I really like her.”
Sadly, Goodman thinks he will never speak to Wiig again.
He also revealed he was feeling insecure about his most recent stint hosting Saturday Night Live, telling Stern he felt that he had “let them down”. “I ran out of gas he said”.
Goodman even played down his impressive weight loss during a second interview with Today, telling his host: “Just wait another six months and I’ll be back to normal. That's the way it usually goes.”
