John Goodman flaunts 14 stone weight loss after hiring a personal trainer

John Goodman looks almost unrecognisable after dropping 14 stone in a dramatic weight loss journey.

The Flintstones actor proudly showed off his new frame at TUBI's The Freak Brothers experience at Fred Segal in LA on Monday.

The 69-year-old who previously tipped the scales at 28 stone, wore a pair of jeans with a cheerful orange vest.

He wore a loose-fitting tweed jacket and teamed his slimmed-down look with a pair of brown loafers.

He praised hired personal trainer, Mackie Shilstone for helping him get fit.

John stars with Pete Davidson, Woody Harrelson and Tiffany Haddish in the animated series.

The cartoon follows three Freak Brothers and their sarcastic cat after they wake up in the year 2020 after falling asleep for 50 years after smoking a magical strain of marijuana.

John spoke about his weight loss to ABC in 2017, saying: "In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits.

He added that he's getting to the age where he can no longer afford to 'sit still anymore' (AFP via Getty Images)

"This time I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I'm getting to the age where I can't afford to sit still anymore."

He ditched booze in 2018 as part of his lifestyle overhaul, and told AARP: "It was basically just portion control and 'I don’t need it'. I was just shoving everything into my mouth."

In 2010, he told People: "It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you’re going to eat next … I wanted to live life better."

He also once told Howard Stern: "I took it slow. I just wanted to change my lifestyle", and admitted of his new way of living: "It's an ongoing process for the rest of my life.

"You look in the mirror everyday and go, 'I gotta deal with this the rest of the day, I gotta deal with this schmuck?'"

As well as hitting the headlines about his weight loss, John was thrown into a media storm when his co-star Roseanne Barr was axed from her own TV series following a racist tweet.

In 2019 the actor admitted that he "really missed" Roseanne and praised her for selling off the rights to her own intellectual property, adding: "She gave up a lot so that we could do that show...

"She gave up all the rights to it so we didn't have to call ourselves the Monners, or the Chonners, or invent new characters. She'll always be missed."

John's character famously died at the end of Roseanne's original run, but was miraculously resurrected for the 2018 reboot.
