John Gilligan enjoys drinks in Spain ahead of Veronica Guerin anniversary as pals chant 'he didn't do it'

Pint-sized thug John Gilligan held a twisted celebration with pals in Spain ahead of the anniversary of Veronica Guerin’s death today.

In a vile video posted on social media, the one-time crime lord and his cronies laughed and chanted “he didn’t do it” as they enjoy drinks in the sun.

A washed-out looking Gilligan is seen sitting with associates at the poolside bar at the four-star Dna Monse Spa & Golf Hotel in Torrevieja near Alicante.

One pal boasts how the haggard 68-year-old bought two rounds for the group and jibes “It’s not often you get two drinks off him” as others chant “he didn’t do it”.

The sickening footage emerged as the family of the murdered journalist attended a mass to mark the 25th anniversary of her brutal killing.

Her loved ones held a special mass to remember the mother-of-one who was shot six times as she sat in her car at traffic lights on the Naas Road in Dublin on June 26, 1996, by the gang of known Gilligan associates.

Dressed in his trademark slacks and white shirt, the career criminal can be seen smiling and looking like he hasn’t got a care in the world.

The group laugh and shout and raise their glasses.

Earlier this week coward Gilligan walked away when confronted by an Irish Daily Star journalist who asked him about Veronica’s murder outside his villa in Alicante.

Gilligan was tried for the murder but was acquitted. His pal Brian “Tosser” Meehan was the only member of his gang convicted of the assassination.

New pictures of washed up crime boss Gilligan with his son Darren, 45, emerged earlier this week.

Gilligan has not been seen in public since he was arrested by Spanish police last October after a deadly Magnum .357 revolver was found buried in the garden of his villa.

He was held in custody after the arrest, but is now back living at the villa in Torrevieja after being released on bail.

Gilligan is currently facing prosecution in connection with the gun which was unearthed and if convicted faces serving at least five years in prison.

He fled to Spain after a failed assasination attempt on him in Clondalkin, west Dublin, in March 2014, just months after being released from high security Portlaoise Prison after serving 17 years for cannabis importation offences connected to his gang.

In 2018 he was arrested in Northern Ireland on money laundering charges after he was found with €20,000 at Belfast International Airport.

However, the charges were later dropped.
