John Giles 'delighted and relieved' to get Covid vaccine

Irish football legend John Giles is 'delighted and relieved' to get the coronavirus vaccine.

Giles, 80, is to receive the first dosage of the vaccine today, having been cocooning since March.

The Dubliner, who is based in the UK, said he was “delighted” to get a call from the NHS to get the vaccine as he expressed fears about getting the virus.

He told RTÉ’s Claire Byrne Live on Monday: “I’ve no concerns about it [the vaccine] at all.”

Asked about what life will be like after he’s been vaccinated, Giles added: "It's not just the getting out, which I find is a bonus Claire, the main thing is I felt if I got this particular virus I'd be a goner.

"So it wasn't a case of getting out, it was hopefully to keep me alive with getting the vaccine.

"So hopefully I'll be able to get out without the fear of catching it. That was my big concern, still is at the moment. I've still got to get it done."

Giles is set to get the second dose of the vaccine on January 5.
