John Fury reacts to son Tommy's withdrawal from Jake Paul fight and plots new date

John Fury has admitted his son Tommy is set for "weeks" on the sidelines after he withdrew from his showdown with Jake Paul.

The British star was forced to pull out of his grudge match against Paul after suffering a broken rib along with a chest infection.

Paul will now face Tyron Woodley in a rematch of their August clash while Fury sweats over whether his meeting with the social media star will be rescheduled.

His father John has now issued his first response to the withdrawal and is targeting a new date of March for the long-awaited showdown.

“Tommy’s coping with it but bacterial chest infections linger for frigging weeks and the broken ribs, somebody in the gym caused that," Fury Sr told talkSPORT.

"I don’t know how that happened but there are some stupid people in this world and we can’t help that. “If Jake Paul wants to reschedule for early spring, no problem. We’re up for it and if he doesn’t then he can keep himself as well. We’re not interested in him.

“We ain’t bothered about any fighter on the planet. This is a business to us and I know the ‘casuals’ lose their heads over it but all of it is strictly business.

“Can Tommy beat Jake Paul? Course he can. It’s unfortunate. I know people are going to say we’ve had this and that to say but you can’t stop fate and accidents happening, can you?

“We’re not going to be negative about it. He’s got the broken ribs, he’s got the bacterial chest infection, we get it out the way, move on. If he wants to fight in March, not a problem. If he doesn’t we’ll find somebody else.”

Fury Sr ignited a feud with his son's rival during their heated press conference at the end of last month.

The rivalry has escalated between the families with Fury's brother Tyson also involved in the ongoing exchanges.

It looked as if the pair would finally settle their differences in the boxing ring but Fury will now face a period out of the ring.

Paul will instead face former UFC champion Woodley in a second meeting later this month in a bid to revive the card on December 18 in Florida.

The American star has long pined for a meeting with Fury and is notably very disappointed with the outcome, after previously admitting fans "do not want to see" his second clash with Woodley.

With tensions now at their highest, Paul has vowed to make Fury wait "years" to rescheduled his "fumbled" opportunity at a showdown.

"He didn't show up to the press conference then he pulled out of the fight," Paul said. "He's done a terrible job of promoting the fight we had; he posted on social media once every other week.

"He's not as hype as everyone thought and I'm p***** off now. I don't like him and I don't want anything to do with the family.

"I think they're sketchy and they're shady and I don't really see a reason to come back next year and give him that big of an opportunity and that big a pay day.

"It would almost be more fun and more satisfying to leave him the dust and let him fight until he's 25-0 to get the same pay day as he was getting in his eighth fight."
