Jan. 12--Well, that didn't take long.
Less than 24 hours after his team was one and done in the NFL playoffs, Coach John Fox and the Denver Broncos announced they have agreed to part ways.
Fox, whose Broncos were upset at home Sunday by Indianapolis, had a record of 46-18 in four seasons in Denver, including 3-4 in the playoffs and a trip to the Super Bowl last February. He helped the team to four consecutive AFC West titles, the last three with Peyton Manning at quarterback.
John Elway, the club's executive vice president of football operations, said the decision to part ways was made when he and Fox met Monday for more than an hour to discuss the 2014 season and talk about goals for the future.
"During our open and candid conversation, it became clear that it was best for both the Denver Broncos and for Coach Fox to move on and make this change," Elway said in a written statement.
Elway thanked Fox for his contribution to the Broncos in the statement, but added "there is still work to be done. I believe this change at the head coaching position will be in the best interest of our long-term goal, which from Day One has been to win world championships."
Fox said, "The timing was right for this decision.... I am eager to continue my coaching career and look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead."
