John Finucane MP praises Belfast postman after potentially lifesaving intervention

A postman has been praised for his medical intervention during an incident in North Belfast on Wednesday.

It's understood that the postal worker was in the middle of his delivery rounds in Ardoyne when he assisted the person while awaiting the arrival of paramedics.

Applying pressure to the "potentially life threatening" wound, he has been applauded for his actions.

"Prompt action was vital in buying time"

Speaking after the incident yesterday, North Belfast MP John Finucane said this speedy response to a critical situation "may have saved a life".

Mr Finucane added: "The prompt action to render first aid to the resident was vital in buying time until paramedics arrived.

"I understand that pressure was applied to a potentially life threatening wound by the postal worker which clearly was a critical intervention.

"Postal workers watch out for vulnerable daily"

"Our postal workers are a credit to the community and watch out for many of our most vulnerable citizens daily.

"I hope the person makes a speedy recovery and gets the support they need to make a full recovery."

Belfast Live has contacted the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service for a comment.
