John F. Kennedy and Jackie O used to visit this Cape Cod property (owned by the White House Rose Garden designer) – it's listed for $23.85 million

Bunny Mellon's home for sale.

A home always tells a story, but some are truly part of history. That goes for 17 Indian Trail: a coastal, Cape Cod property that used to count John F. Kennedy and Jackie O among its guests.

The sprawling house, which used to be owned by legendary landscaper Bunny Mellon (who designed the White House Rose Garden) and her husband, banker Paul Mellon, in the 1950s, has been listed for $23.85 million.

The 7,300-square-foot main house features eight bedrooms and is the classic embodiment of New England coastal style, with its ocean views as well as its light color palette and natural accents. Located on a private island, it also offers 500 feet of waterfront and a private dock. Let's take a closer look.

A bird's eye view shows the full range of the 7.5 acres, situated in the gated enclave of Oyster Harbors. Two guest cottages, a beach house, a greenhouse, and a private suite, formerly Ms. Mellon’s art studio, are all part of this expansive property.

The entryway is light and airy with antique touches, like the restored wood credenza. Tiled floors and a subtly patterned stair runner add some dimension to the otherwise neutral area of the home.

The sitting room screams summer home, with a wicker coffee table, white sofas, and plenty of throws softening the space.

The bedroom, meanwhile, features coastal-inspired blue, gray, and white linens, which come with corresponding curtains, giving the room a uniform appearance. The windows, which show off the surrounding coast, amplify the theme of the room.

Nothing says summer like outdoor wicker furniture, and the patio capitalizes on this enduring trend with bench seating and an ottoman.

The garden, finally, is as idyllic as they come, with a greenhouse and plenty of land for imaginative planting.

This property is currently listed with Joanna Dresser at Christie's.
