John Eustace gives his verdict on QPR's missed penalty - and reveals who should have taken it

Queens Park Rangers were lucky to get a late winner after a missed penalty almost cost the Hoops all three points.

Bright Osayi-Samuel was brought down in the area late in the second half giving QPR the opportunity to restore their lead after Sheffield Wednesday equalised from the spot.

Ryan Manning picked up the ball to take it before an argument broke out among the Hoops squad as to who should take the spot kick.

John Eustace on Luke Freeman's QPR future with Middlesbrough and Leeds tipped for summer move

Skipper Toni Leistner stepped up and order Ebere Eze to take the spot kick, although the midfielder was left with egg on his face after his tame run up made his kick easy for Keiren Westwood to stop.

Thankfully Matt Smith popped up late on to spare his blushes and John Eustace said that the miss was a lesson in taking your opportunities.

Asked if he saw the disagreement, Eustace said: "I didn’t see that but it’s done.

Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 QPR player ratings: Ebere Eze frustrates as Matt Smith secures late win

"Ebere (Eze) had a fantastic game today so I was fully confident that he was going to put the ball away but it’s important as a group when you’ve got a lot of young players involved now and it’s important that they realise the importance of putting the ball away.

"We’ve had a lot of chances in the last seven games with and we haven’t been clinical enough. It’s important that whoever’s playing going into next season knows the importance of scoring goals. It’s vital.”

Asked who is supposed to take QPR's penalties, Eustace joked: "Tomer Hemed I think, but he’s injured!

"It doesn’t matter who was assigned to take it.

"If you feel confident enough to pick the ball up and put the ball away – it’s a brave thing to do. I’m fine with whoever takes it but unfortunately he didn’t put it away today.”
