John Elway has taken the old advice of not being able to appreciate others unless you appreciate yourself to heart by using a Denver Broncos press conference to thank … John Elway.
Elway was speaking after the Broncos had parted ways with their head coach, John Fox. Elway quickly corrected himself, saying thank you instead to Fox. Denver lost to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, sparking rumours that Peyton Manning could announce his retirement from football in the near future.
Once Elway had recovered his poise, he said he and Fox has disagreed over the team’s next steps. “I think the main thing between John and I was we disagreed how to get to the next level,” Elway said. “Because we accomplished so much, four AFC West championships. I think the biggest miss between us was how are we going to take that next step and what it was going to take to get to that next step. That’s where that disagreement came from.”
Fox is unlikely to be out of work for long and is expected to interview with the Chicago Bears. Elway added that he had had a “great conversation” with Manning but it was too early to tell what the quarterback’s plans are.
John Elway did not comment on what he thought John Elway’s next steps will be.
