John Elway provides update on WR Emmanuel Sanders

Denver Broncos veteran wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last December, putting his status for the 2019 season opener in doubt.

Despite facing a long road to recovery, though, Sanders has said he is confident he will be back in time for Week 1. That’s welcomed news to team general manager John Elway.

“Emmanuel says he feels good,” Elway said during his pre-draft press conference Tuesday. “You never know. We’re hoping. If there is anybody that can come back, it’s going to be him.

“That’s why I feel good about where he is. We’re going to add more [wide receivers] for camp. Hopefully we bring in a lot more competition there, too, and find a couple of gems there.”

Sanders, a two-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, hauled in 71 receptions for 868 yards and scored six touchdowns in 12 games last season. He’s a key part of the team’s offense when healthy.

The 32-year-old receiver is set to become a free agent in 2020.
