John Elway, current and former Broncos post tributes to Pat Bowlen on Twitter

Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen died on Thursday evening after a long

battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 75 years old.

Broncos general manager John Elway was among the current and former players that posted tributes to the owner on Twitter on Friday.

Bowlen owned the team for 35 years and helped Denver win three Super Bowls. He will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August.

Ownership of the team is under the control of the Pat Bowlen Trust. The trust will pass down ownership to one of Bowlen’s children when they decide a qualified candidate has emerged. Forbes has calculated that the Broncos are worth $2.7 billion.

In the meantime, president/CEO Joe Ellis will handle business operations and Elway will handle football operations in Denver.

The Broncos reached peak popularity after Bowlen purchased the team in 1984. Denver has sold out 300-straight games and the team was featured in 350 nationally televised contests under Bowlen’s ownership.
