John Elway confirms Broncos will bring back Emmanuel Sanders and Derek Wolfe

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway confirmed during a press conference at the NFL combine Wednesday that the team will pick up the 2019 contract options for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and defensive lineman Derek Wolfe.

“They’re good football players,” Elway said. “That’s why we plan on exercising. [They are] different situations, but we’re planning on exercising both of those [contracts].”

Broncos coach Vic Fangio hinted in his own press conference that both players would be back in 2019, saying Sanders would hopefully have a big role on the offense and that nothing had changed with Wolfe.

Wolfe’s option is worth $1 million and Sanders’ option is worth $1.5 million, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The two players will have a combined salary cap hit of $23,862,500 this year before they both become free agents in 2020.

Sanders indicated in a tweet Thursday that this year will be his “last ride” in Denver. Wolfe’s time with the team may come to an end after 2019 as well. Both players will are poised to remain Broncos for one more season, though.
