John Daly to play in the Barbasol Championship in lieu of British Open

John Daly is headed to Kentucky.

The brash, long-hitting, controversial golfer has been announced by the tournament as the latest entrant that will tee it up at the Barbasol Championship next week after he was denied a request to use a cart at the British Open.

Daly claims he suffers from osteoarthritis in his right knee and has asked to use a cart in the past, more famously at this year’s PGA Championship.

Andy Pazder, chief tournaments and competition officer for the PGA Tour, previously told the Associated Press that Daly was approved to use a cart through 2019 at PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions events late last year.

The R&A announced their denial of Daly’s request, prompting a post on Instagram from Daly on the decision. He reportedly also needed serious medical attention while vacationing in England recently following being bitten by a brown recluse spider.

The tournament will take place July 18-21 at Keene Trace Gold Club in Nicholasville.
