Actor John Cusack recently faced strong criticism on social media after sharing a post that many people called anti-Semitic. The controversial post, which he later deleted, appeared on Bluesky and included a graphic trying to link former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is Jewish, to figures like Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The main claim in the post was that there was a connection between Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine Maxwell’s father, and Samuel Pisar, Blinken’s stepfather.
This supposed link was then used to make an unverified claim that Maxwell and Epstein worked as spies for Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency. As found by Express, This theory seems to come from old, unproven rumors about Robert Maxwell, suggesting he was a triple agent working for MI6 (British intelligence), the KGB (Soviet intelligence), and Mossad. This claim was also one reason theorists think we don’t have much footage of billionaire Epstein’s death.
Some conspiracy theories also claim his death was not an accident. His body was found in the Atlantic Ocean in 1991 after he reportedly fell from his yacht. These theories say Mossad killed him because Israel supposedly refused to give him a loan, and he threatened to fight back. Even though he died in international waters, Robert Maxwell was later buried in Jerusalem.

Cusack’s post showed the Star of David prominently on the people mentioned in the graphic, which made the criticism even stronger. Many public figures quickly responded with strong disapproval. Mike Masnick, a board member of Bluesky and the founder of the Techdirt blog, called the content “anti-Semitic Nazi s–t.” Similarly, Angus Johnston, a history professor at The City University of New York, directly said the actor’s post was “straight-up anti-Semitism.”
This is not the first time John Cusack has been accused of spreading anti-Semitic ideas. In 2019, he apologized after retweeting an image that showed a hand with the Star of David pressing down on a group of people. The text on the image said, “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” That earlier incident also led to widespread criticism.

At the time of the 2019 controversy, the actor said he deeply regretted sharing the “insensitive and offensive graphic.” He admitted that while he uses social media to share his thoughts, the retweet did not reflect his actual beliefs. He stated that he believes everyone should have equality, freedom, and peace, and he was upset that his account could spread something that went against those values.
This repeated pattern of sharing content seen as anti-Semitic, deleting it, and then apologizing shows that the actor continues to struggle with his social media presence. Even after these posts are removed, people remember them, and it’s hard to ignore how awful these posts are.
