John Cotter insists confidence isn't an issue and that Cork City are on the up

John Cotter insists confidence is not a problem at Cork City and believes his team is on the up.

The interim boss saw the Rebels bounce back from a defeat to arch rivals Dundalk by beating UCD 1-0 away on Monday.

They travel to Shamrock Rovers tonight and Cotter said: “There’s a good atmosphere around the place at the moment.

“We’ve won three games out of four and kept three clean sheets - so the attitude and the character shown by the players has been very pleasing.

“First and foremost, it was about getting confidence back, and results help that. I think it’s back and, now that it is, you can start demanding a bit more from players.”

Cotter continued: “We’ve been missing key players over the last few weeks, but we’re hopeful that a number of players are close to a return.

“They’re players who have been brilliant over the last few years, which makes the wins we have had over the last few weeks even better.

“It shows that the other players have stood up to be counted and shown they can do a job.”

And sizing up the Rovers challenge tonight, Cotter said: “Rovers are in a good place at the moment and we know it’ll be a tough game.

“But we’ll go up there with the belief that we can get something out of the game.”
