John Cominsky will be ‘down a bit’ after thumb surgery

The Lions will head to Minnesota for their first road game of the season without one of their most effective defenders from the first two weeks. Head coach Dan Campbell revealed on Wednesday that defensive lineman John Cominsky will be out for some time with a thumb injury suffered in Sunday’s win over the Washington Commanders.

“He’s going to be down for a little bit,” Campbell said of Cominsky. “He had surgery yesterday and he’ll be down for a little while.”

Campbell indicated that Cominsky will not go on injured reserve, at least not immediately. He did offer insight on how the Lions will replace their leader in QB pressures through the first two games.

“We’ve got AB (Austin Bryant) and we could possibly bring up Meech (practice squad rookie DT Demetrius Taylor),” Campbell said. “So we’ve got some options.”
