John Cena calls Logan Paul “underrated” despite admitting “he’s not a very likeable guy”

WWE legend John Cena has surprised many by defending Logan Paul ahead of their upcoming match at WWE Clash in Paris. Speaking at Fan Expo Chicago during a Q&A session with fans, Cena offered high praise for the social media star despite acknowledging fan criticism. The 17-time World Champion believes Paul deserves more credit for his work in professional wrestling than he currently receives.

Logan Paul first joined WWE in 2021 but did not compete in his first match until 2022. Since then, the YouTuber and imPaulsive podcast host has become a regular fixture in WWE programming, according to Dexerto. He has participated in high-profile matches, won titles, and established himself as a key part of WWE shows. However, many fans still view him as an outsider who does not belong in professional wrestling.

When asked about Logan Paul during the Fan Expo Chicago event, Cena admitted that “he’s not a very likeable guy” but strongly disagreed with fans who called Paul overrated. “I disagree, I think he’s underrated. I think he gets a bad rap. He’s not an outsider, he belongs in WWE,” Cena stated. The WWE veteran also predicted that Paul has championship opportunities in his future.

Cena taking Logan Paul seriously ahead of Paris showdown

Cena made it clear that he is not taking his upcoming opponent lightly. The wrestling legend emphasized that he is training hard for their match at WWE Clash in Paris on August 31. “I can tell you I’m not looking past Logan Paul, and I’m not believing any of the hype that he’s an outsider who should be taken lightly,” Cena explained to the audience.

The match represents one of John Cena’s final appearances as he prepares to retire from professional wrestling at the end of 2025. Cena referenced his recent street fight against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, saying it “reignited a fire” in him. He acknowledged that Logan Paul poses a legitimate threat, admitting “Do I think Logan Paul can beat me up? Yes.”

The upcoming bout has generated mixed reactions from wrestling fans. Some have expressed disappointment that one of Cena’s limited remaining matches is being used against Logan Paul rather than other potential opponents. However, Cena’s endorsement adds credibility to Paul’s wrestling career. The social media star signed an official WWE contract and has proven himself capable of delivering entertaining matches.

Logan Paul’s wrestling career has been notable for his quick progression and natural ability in the ring. Despite being relatively new to professional wrestling, he has already defeated established wrestlers like AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio, and Kevin Owens. His athletic background and showmanship have helped him adapt to WWE’s entertainment-focused style. However, his journey from YouTube to WWE has not been without controversy, with some questioning whether he has earned his spot in major storylines.
