John Barrowman has weighed in on the future of Doctor Who - and a possible transgender Time Lord.
Dancing On Ice's John, who recently returned to the BBC time travel romp as the immortal Captain Jack Harkness, told that he would "love" to see a trans incarnation.
The Doctor is an alien with the power of regeneration - meaning that multiple actors can take on the role.
The current Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, is the first female version after 14 men portrayed the role since the show's birth in the 1960s.
And John would be happy to see the show "take another leap" and introduce a trans of gender nonspecific Doctor, as speculation ramps up about who will succeed Jodie.

Speaking to Metro, the star said: "I'd love to see a transgender Doctor. I think that would be awesome."
He added that a "androgynous, gender non-specific person" would also be great.
"With Jodie, they made a leap," John added, "They made a huge leap and it worked for them, and then it's time for them to make another leap."

And speaking about LGBTQ+ representation in Doctor Who, he said: "I was the first openly gay actor playing a character like Captain Jack, who we called omnisexual. He didn't care who he slept with really, and he was unapologetic about his sexuality.
"We have had LGBTQ+ representation on the TARDIS. During Peter Capaldi's reign, we had a character who was a lesbian [Pearl Mackie's Bill Potts]. So yeah, we've had them, why not have a Doctor the same?"
And could we see a Doctor-Jack romance blossoming somewhere down the line?

"If that were to happen, that would be a massive decision," John remarked, "Captain Jack, I think, would just come back – if it does happen – for one off things, because he is a popular character."
He's previously tipped chart-topper and It's A Sin star Olly Alexander to be the next Doctor.
"He's a lovely actor," John gushed, "and I think he would make a wonderful Doctor."
