John Barrowman returns to I'm A Celebrity after spraining ankle and 'sipping on champagne with male strippers'

John Barrowman has returned to I’m A Celebrity hours after he was rushed to hospital.

The Torchwood star, 51, was left in agony after tripping and spraining his ankle on Sunday night.

Malique Thompson-Dwyer and Nick Knowles carried him to a medic who took the decision to take him to hospital where he received an X-ray and a CT scan.

A spokesperson for the show confirmed Barrowman has now returned to camp.

The Doctor Who star said he had enjoyed his short break from the jungle, joking he was sipping on champagne while surrounded by male strippers.

In a message to his camp mates he said: “I am lying here sipping champagne in a hospital with six male strippers. Continue to live jungle life as normal. I want to be back in there with you all soon. But please get some rest this evening. Ps I want my f****** dinner when I get back!”

I'm a Celebrity viewers want Holly and Dec to stop Sandra Redknapp jokes

Declan Donnelly broke the news of Barrowman’s accident at the top of Sunday night’s show, telling viewers he had been excluded from the public vote.

He said: “John Barrowman had an accident in camp last night and was taken to hospital. He was fine, he’s resting up but unfortunately we’ve had to exclude him from tonight’s vote until we know if he’s ok to return to camp.”

Holly Willoughby told fans they will receive a refund if they had voted to save Barrowman in Sunday night’s eviction.

Thompson-Dwyer fell victim to the public vote and was given the boot over Sair Khan.

The Hollyoaks star, 20, knocked back a glass of champagne as he chatted to Willoughby and Donnelly before being reunited with his mother.

I'm A Celebrity is on ITV, tonight at 9pm
