John Barrowman at centre of Dancing on Ice spat with co-stars as viewers brand him mean

Dancing on Ice judge John Barrowan has come under fire from fans of the show after being at the centre of a heated live on air spat during Sunday's show.

John is a newcomer to the judging panel, taking over from Dancing on Ice's sharp-tongued resident Mr Nasty, Jason Gardiner for the new series. But he showed shades of his predecessor when giving his comments to Parlaympian Libby Clegg and her pro partner Mark Hanretty after their performance to a song from The Jungle Book.

While he only awarded the pair half a point less than his colleagues, John was branded 'mean' by many people watching at home after his rather cutting critique.

Referring to a part of the routine that involved Libby sliding on the floor, John said: "I kind of lost it there," and as you can see from the video taken from ITV above , the studio audience were quickly to voice their disapproval, with a chorus of boos echoing around the rink.

It got worse as he then clashed with fellow judge Ashley Banjo and Mark himself when he said: "We're at the point where things need to be spectacular and special and that wasn't spectacular," to which Mark retorted: "That was spectacular...I'm not hearing that!"

Plenty of people at home sided with Mark and lashed out at John. Taking to Twitter, one ranted: "Hi john Barrowman somebody should give you a pair spectacles so you can see exactly what Libby can see them perhaps you would not be so mean with your scores," and, echoing those sentiments, another reacted: "OMG John Barrowman is getting on my wick. I don’t know who I hate more Jason or John they both are so annoying. If he’s trying to be this shows version of Craig Revel Horwood it’s really not working"

One viewer has even called for John to get the boot, along with Ashley, in favour of Karen Barber and former winner Dan Whiston, tweeting: "please consider switching up the judging panel for next year! Get rid of Ashley and John for Karen and Dan!"

However, others agreed with John, with one tweeting: "John got it spot on... Love Libby but Joe had a slight edge.
