John Barnes issues apology after Liverpool legend accidentally shares porn image on Twitter

Liverpool legend John Barnes has apologised after a social media gaffe saw him unwittingly post a pornographic image on Twitter on Saturday.

The former England winger initially tweeted a screenshot of a message he had received featuring a picture of Donald Trump and the US President's late mother Mary Anne, including a quote attributed to the latter in which she supposedly referred to her son as an "idiot" and predicted that he would be a "disaster" if he ever moved into politics.

"Says it all," wrote Barnes above the picture.

However, the 56-year-old did not realise that below the screenshot was a camera roll that featured a thumbnail image from a pornographic video.

Barnes subsequently removed the tweet and issued an apology for any offence caused.

"I have to apologise for any offence caused as I posted a Donald trump picture sent to me by a friend.. on the camera roll under was a video of pornography," he later tweeted.

"I wasn’t aware that it was there and apologise once again for any offence caused."

Barnes' mistake inevitably drew a lot of attention on social media and he did not shy away from discussing the error.

When told that he might have wanted to crop the photo, Barnes replied: "Don’t know how to do that... I’m afraid to press buttons on this phone.

"I’m 56 yrs old, so happy to just be able to get one or 2 words out on twitter that people understand!!"
