John Barnes dismisses idea of Jadon Sancho to Liverpool and makes £100m claim

John Barnes says he cannot see Jadon Sancho getting into Liverpool's starting XI, despite the Reds being linked with a move for the England star next summer.

Manchester United were the favourites to sign Sancho from Borussia Dortmund but, despite fevered speculation, they were unable to secure a deal for the 20-year-old as they failed to meet the Bundesliga club's valuation for him.

Whilst the Red Devils are expected to retain their interest in Sancho, their failure to agree a deal to sign him has potentially left the door open for other clubs to swoop next summer.

That reportedly includes Liverpool, with some reports claiming the Reds are now above their rivals in the queue for Sancho.

However, speaking to Bonus Code Bets, former Reds star Barnes says he cannot see why Jurgen Klopp would be interested in spending the sort of money Dortmund are asking for Sancho, especially when the player is not guaranteed of a starting place.

He said: "I can’t see Sancho getting in ahead of Mane, Salah or Firmino, so for him to come he would have to fight for a place and not necessarily be in the team.

"I don’t think anyone from the front three will be replaced and seeing as they’ve just signed Jota and they have Origi and Shaqiri, it dosen’t make sense to get Sancho.

"I’d be very surprised if they get him.

"It’s good to get great players, but are Liverpool going to spend £100m on one player? I doubt it very much.

"I don’t think that’s one that will happen."
