John Arne Riise gives update on condition after ex-Liverpool man and daughter involved in car crash

John Arne Riise has moved to ease concerns over his health after he was involved in a car accident on Tuesday evening.

The former Liverpool defender was travelling to Alesund in his native Norway with his teenage daughther, Ariana, when he swerved to avoid an obstacle in the road.

The ex-Reds' star's car was left in an undrivable condition after colliding into some railings in at Lerstad, a few miles east of their destination.

Local police were reported to have recovered the vehicle at the scene of the accident at around 2am after the pair were treated for their injuries.

Riise and his 19-year-old daughter were then taken to a local hospital where they spent the night before being discharged.

In a post on his Instagram story, Riise wrote: "Quick update: I can confirm that my daughter and myself were involved in a car accident last night.

"We are both fine and out of hospital after spending the night there for check up.

'Thank you for all the messages, much appreciated. Stay safe and take care of each other."

Riise's agent, Erland Bakke told Dagbladet: "He drove her home to Alesund, and just before they arrived, something on the road caused John to quickly turn left, and drive into the road rails.

"Both are well under the circumstances, they will remain in the hospital until this morning."

Riise played for Liverpool for seven years, making 348 appearances in total and winning three major honours including the Champions League in 2005.
