Johanna Konta storms past Margarita Gasparyan in 54 minutes to reach US Open third round

Johanna Konta put in a stellar performance as she stormed past the hapless Margarita Gasparyan to reach the third round of the US Open.

The British number one dropped just one game in the entire match as she dominated the contest against Gasparyan, who looked out-of-sorts on Court 5.

It was no surprise then to see Konta seal a comprehensive 6-1, 6-0 victory in just 58 minutes of play to continue her impressive run of form in 2019.

The 28-year-old went up a break early in the first set to show a sign of things to come, although Gasparyan recovered to hold and stay in contention.

But Konta was serving with such power and accuracy that Gasparyan, who had barely featured since injuring herself at Wimbledon, was simply unable to cope.

Konta wrapped up the first set in 30 minutes after winning four games in a row - with 12 winners included - and had her eyes set on a crushing victory.

Gasparyan barely put up a fight, committing several unforced errors and double faults aplenty. Indeed, she wouldn't taste success on her own serve again in the match.

Konta required just another 24 minutes on court before sealing victory with a bagel in the final set.

Another professional performance from the 16th seed, although she will accept that tougher tests await her in the third round at Flushing Meadows.
