1) In memory of the great man: a Johan Cruyff special. The Turn; the goal against Argentina in the 1974 World Cup; the impossible goal against Atlético Madrid in 1974 – one of the moments celebrated in the superb Cruyff documentary En Un Momento Dado; the Ajax v Juventus European Cup final in 1973; the now much-imitated penalty for Ajax in 1982; the backheel for the New York Cosmos against the World All Stars, in 1978; just two touches needed for Ajax in 1972; For Barcelona against Real Madrid in 1973; all the ball skills; the chip for Ajax in1982; his Barcelona dream team; effortless for the Washington Diplomats; 14 minutes of magic set to music and one of football’s greatest players parts one and two.
2) Victoria’s Peter Handscomb’s double hit in the Sheffield Shield final against South Australia was an intriguing incident, improved rather nicely by being given the thuglife treatment.
3) Slightly shy Jordanian interviewer does his best with Harry Redknapp, including having to manoeuvre him to face the camera, in a post-match interview, after the latter led Jordan to an 8-0 win over Bangladesh on his debut as their manager.
4) Ooooff. Cristiano Ronaldo gives this Canadian fan an absolutely unique memory from her visit to the Bernabéu.
5) Some remarkable coolness under pressure here as this driver loses his brakes at Sebring, goes crashing through gates back onto the public roads and then keeps control to head back toward the pits. Elsewhere, just for fun, Bruno Senna and Scott Speed mess about with a drone and a Formula E car at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in Mexico City.
6) Excellent short doc on the story of Mexico’s FC Juárez: Football in the Murder Capital of the World.
Highlights from last week’s blog
1) Zlatan unable to contain himself even when messing about in training for Sweden.
2) Petrolheads, settle down for a treat with this absolutely glorious colour footage from the 1967 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. A race that featured some of the all-time greats, including Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, Chris Amon, John Surtees, Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and Denny Hulme.
3) Gone but not, it seems, entirely forgotten: “Austus”. Newsreel Footage of this amalgam of American and Australian Rules football, designed to let servicemen from each country compete against one another during the second world war, is all that remains of the short-lived code.
4) He’s a big man and he’s in awesome shape: a magnificent take and then off-load from Semi Radradra for Parramatta Eels in the NRL.
5) With Shane Watson having now retired from international cricket the lovers and haters can finally take a deep breath and move on. Watto certainly had trouble with what became known as Leg Before Watson and subsequent decisions to review LBW-shouts, indeed, once he was even LBW while fielding .... But he could also be destructive, particularly in limited-overs games, as shown here against England and here against Sri Lanka.
6) Retro cycling tandem sprint at the 1982 World Track Championships, with some remarkable skills from Paul Sydenham in maintaining control when the wheels start coming off. Which can be very nasty.
