Jofra Archer will miss the start of the Indian Premier League through injury after being ruled out of England’s three-match ODI series against India.

Archer will now return to the UK to manage his right elbow injury.

England have named a 14-player squad for the series that starts in Pune on Tuesday.

In addition to the 14 players included in the squad, Jake Ball, Chris Jordan and Dawid Malan will travel with the squad as cover.

England’s picks have all been in India for the Twenty20 International series that concluded with defeat in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Archer’s ongoing elbow problem has been a source of concern for captain Eoin Morgan and England, with all options open moving forward to eradicate the problem once and for all, including missing the IPL season.

Archer has now been deemed unfit for selection for the ODI series that features matches on 23, 26 and 28 March.

The ECB medical team will assess the player and, together with Jofra, develop a treatment plan and a return-to-play schedule in due course, ruling him out of the start of this year’s Indian Premier League, which starts 9 April.
