Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the second Test against South Africa with an elbow injury.

The England fast bowler is the latest omission for Joe Root’s side, who have been struck by illness on tour, with 11 players affected.

Archer took six wickets in the opening Test defeat at Centurion, and will now have a scan to determine the severity of the damage.

A statement from the ECB read: “He is not fit to play suffering with a right elbow injury.

“He will not be at the ground today and will have a second scan to determine the extent of the injury.”

England are without bowlers Mark Wood and spinner Jach Leach for the Cape Town Test.

Dominic Bess has come into the side, with the off-spinner making his third Test appearance.
