Joey Veerman tipped for Rangers transfer with Heerenveen captain resigned to losing him

Joey Veerman has been tipped for a move to Rangers by his current captain.

The Dutch midfielder is reportedly on Steven Gerrard ’s wanted list this summer after the 22-year-old netted seven times and assisted ten goals in the Eredivise this year.

However, the Scottish Premiership champions are likely to face stiff competition from Veerman’s homeland as well as Italy.

PSV were understood to be at the front of the queue to land him but Dutch champions Ajax and AZ Alkmaar are also keen.

However, Heerenveen boss Roger Schmidt insists that none of their rivals have the finances to be able to afford Veerman.

Atalanta are also sniffing about after a fine season in Serie A.

Slipper Henk Veerman is resigned to losing his teammate and namesake, listing Rangers as one of the clubs his colleague is most likely to join.

He told Dutch newspaper Voetbalprimeur : “I’ve read things about Atalanta, Rangers, PSV, Ajax and AZ.

"I expect him to go to one of those clubs. I also think that Joey will add value for any club in the Netherlands.

”If things change enormously (at the club). That is a serious problem for me.”

The Ibrox club have already added striker Fashion Sakala and midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh to their sqaud for next season.
