Joey Veerman's stock rises as Rangers target's 'cut above' performance earns him personal accolade

Rangers target Joey Veerman has seen his stock rise further after being named in the Eredivisie team of the week.

The midfielder was part of the Heerenveen side that beat Go Ahead Eagles 1-0 in the first game of the season and it was a bright start for him.

Veerman was described as being a 'cut above' his team-mates as they got their first three points of the season and it was he who set up the opener.

He played through Tibor Halilovic and his midfield partner smashed one from distance that deflected past Go Ahead Eagles goalkeeper Warner Hahn.

Veerman's future remains up in the air with Heerenveen managing to hold onto him so far but a number of clubs – including Rangers – are credited with an interest.

The Ibrox side have been heavily linked with him over the summer and he was believed to be Steven Gerrard's top target but they're yet to make an official move for him.

The Dutch side have already turned down an offer from Verona while Feyenoord have also been interested in signing him, but are unwilling to pay the money Heerenveen want.
