Joey Veerman Rangers transfer state of play as surprise suitor ramps up interest

In-demand Joey Veerman has been named as the number one target for Feyenoord amid interest from Rangers.

Steven Gerrard is an admirer of the 22-year-old as he looks to bolster his ranks in the middle of the park ahead of the new season.

The Dutch playmaker has made it clear that he wants to leave Heerenveen this summer, publicly stating he sees his future away from the Eredivise.

Reports in the Netherlands now state that Feyenoord hope to tempt Veerman to remain in his homeland this summer.

Dutch outlet VI claim that the Rotterdam side have already "expressed an interest" in the player and are in talks over a deal.

However, they state that an agreement is some way off over an asking price as "the Rotterdammers are mainly dependent on external financiers for further actions in the transfer market."

In a boost for Rangers, Hellas Verona look to have turned to an alternative amid the stalemate with Heerenveen.

The Serie A side are on the verge of completing a permanent deal for Manchester City starlet Ivan Ilic.

The Serbian spent the season on loan at Verona from Pep Guardiola's side and impressed fans in the north of Italy.

According to Sky Italia, the 20-year-old will complete a €7.5million switch in the coming days.
